GBV Training for Multidisciplinary Teams – Athens

Police officers, NGO staff, medical professionals and other social services staff were brought together to a 4-day GBV capacity building training, in order to strengthen their knowledge, skills and compassion to better help the GBV survivors and to improve the effective and efficient cooperation between them. Having identified the existing gap regarding focusing on the child survivor aspect of GBV with this specific target group, whereas the first three days different GBV elements were handled.

The expected outcomes of the GBV Training for Multi-disciplinary teams are as followed:

  1. Increased knowledge regarding GBV and GBV survivors of all ages, including child survivors
  2. More accurate and in depth understanding of formal procedures that are there to be followed.
  3. Awareness about the consistency of the whole and the cohesion of the different actors within the given protection and assistance system that will result to more open and clear communication and effective collaboration among them.
  4. Increased ability to create and sustain a positive attitude and standpoint in order to avoid possible professional burn-out.
  5. Reframing, meaning availability of another, more clear, frame of reference to look to the same situation of GBV survivors from a different point of view.
  6. More trained competencies on how to connect to, identify and approach GBV survivors of all ages.
  7. Concrete skills on how to proceed with the reporting of GBV cases.

The training took place between January 30th and February 2nd 2018 and was the last of a wider 4-day training package to be held in Athens . The training was delivered in Greek, and the trainers were selected from CRWI Diotima’s core team as well as external partners delivering the different parts of the training day.
